Everything in which grows needs proper nutrition. the best way to achieve this is with proper fertilization schedule.
How often do i need to Fertilize:
A full feeding is recommended at least 5 times per year. Which breaks down to once every 4-5 weeks of the growing season from March-October.
You want to feed your lawn when it's growing most rapidly. However, you should base the frequency on your soil sample and the type of lawn you have. For example, cool season grasses can be fertilized in early spring and before summer. Tall fescue which is most popular in this area doesn't like fertilizer in the summer months. if grass is light green or yellow this time of season fertilizer is needed based on a soil sample it's best to fertilize at a rate of 1/3 pound per 1,000sqft.
How often should weed control be applied:
Generally speaking, weed control should be applied 4 times a year. twice in the springtime. which is a pre-emergent and then a post Emergent. A pre-emergent is applied early spring before seeds have germinated. if they have then a post-emergent is applied to those weeds. In summertime if weeds come popping up then you may apply another application throughout the summer. In the fall time you apply another application to control weeds throughout the winter months. this is best to apply in mid-October. Which is 4-6 weeks after you have overseeded. If you spray while or before you seed, it will also kill the seed and not let it germinate.
Why do we need to control weeds:
The number one reason to control weed is so they do not take over the lawn and choke out the grass. Some weeds are more damaging than others. A weed is basically labeled as a weed because it is growing where it is not supposed to. for example, Annual bluegrass it starts germinating in the late summer or fall. It is a weed because it is a winter annual or weak perennial and often dies during summer heat and drought leaving behind a lack-luster lawn but because people don't really like it and it is not part of the type of grass that is growing in that location it's considered a weed. Another example is dandelions. These are really not a weed. in fact, they are packed with nutrition and highly medicinal products.
