what does dirt got to do with it. well, it's the blood which keeps the plant growing.
Is it recommended to get a soil test:
The short answer to that question is yes. It is not only recommended by the Department of Agriculture. it's recommended a professional company must conduct a soil sample of the property once a year.
What is so imporant about soil testing:
When you apply a fertilizer, it has three properties to it N-P-K which is Nitrogen, Phosphate, Potassium. If you were to just apply a fertilizer like a 15-15-15 and you were high in Nitrogen and Phosphates, you could potentially cause a lichen problem.
Nitrogen when there is too much in the soil gets wasted away and into our water ways sewer systems cause a ton of problems cause plants to grow excessively and develop overly succulent leaves and shoots, which promotes outbreaks of certain sucking insects and mites. Excessive nitrogen causes fruiting plants to produce relatively more foliage, reducing their fruit production and delaying fruit maturity.
Phosphate on the other hand is not so forgiving in that area. If too much is applied, it will remain high for a pretty long time in your soil. unlike Nitrogen Phosphate is not a water-soluble meaning it will not wash away. high levels of Phosphate can be deadly to plants. it reduces the growth and development and potentially crop growth. Phosphate can be detrimental to the environment because it can enter freshwater bodies through surface runoff and can cause algal bloom reducing water quality.
It is very important we protect our Environment by doing so it will allow nature to thrive as it was intended.
What does the soil test look at:
When we take a soil test, we collect four small samples from different areas of your property. Soil samples gives the property owner and landscape operator a professional soil analysis along with scientific recommendations to correct nutrient deficiencies in the soil. The sample tests for the major elements of phosphorus and potassium, pH and minor elements of magnesium, calcium, boron, zinc, manganese, iron and copper.
