Autumn & Spring are the time of the year where we say good bye to the old and hello to the new. Let's look at what is involved in this process
Seasons change what do we do?
Autum is the time of the year we get really for the pumpkin patches, Corn field mazes, and all the pies you can imagine. We have all these fun things to do with that always comes well the cleanup of leaves seeding new lawns, and putting away all summer equipment gets underway as well.
Why should we Cleanup and mulch leaves into grass?
Mulching of leaves allows the composting process top to happen quicker. If you were to leaves your leaves on the grass it will not only suffocate your grass but also allow moisture to build up which can cause unwanted fungal problems.
When you don't cleanup you leave it also can attach more bugs to your soil. Most bug thrives in moist areas. So, getting rid of your leaves lessens the chance of bugs but also rodents.
Spring is the time of the year where we welcome the new beginining. This would be from flowers and trees to new life in the wilderness. Spring is a beautiful time of the year.
What is spring cleanup?
As Winter comes to a end we look forward to groundhogs' day. it's a excitement that lets us know spring is coming. In the wintertime we know the ground freezes. as spring approaches the ground starts to unthaw which also means everything is coming back from dormant.
This is when we start getting out fertilizers, shovel, spade or whatever ready. If however, you walk on to your lawn and water squirts up or you hear a squishy sound the ground is not ready. If you however have passed that test it's time to call us so we can take care to prep your lawn, garden and landscaping beds for the season.
What is involved?
As you are aware of how Fall cleanups happen. Spring cleanup is picking up the remaining. what plants might have dyed though the winter. Picking up leftover leaves, twigs, and branches. Spring cleaning also involves removal of old warn out mulch and replacing it with new. As well as lightly pruning back bushes from winter injury. last but not least once your lawn is properly cleanup up. it's time for the fine details. Taking a soil sample to find out what kind of nutrition your lawn has and may need. This is the time you want to always apply your pre-emergence for weeds and crab grass.
Why do we need to apply fertilizer or pre- emergence it's still chilly?
When it comes to spring the weeds from the following year have laid therer seeds for the following year. if we do not apply a pre-emergence to kill these seedings it runs the risk of them germinating and casus more of a problem.
A pre-emergence is a chemical you apply in early spring just before your soil reaching a consistent temperature of about 50 degrees to be able to get to the seedings before they germinate. Once they germinate at a soil consistent temperature of 60 degrees pre-emergent will not work.
We apply a fertilizer down in early spring before the grass starts to wake up so when it does it has the proper nutrients it needs to thrive.
